Buying your first headset?

Here’s what to consider.
Whether you fly for work or leisure, investing early in a great headset is one of the best things you can do as a pilot. Your top priorities are likely clear communication, noise cancellation and comfort – here’s what you should know about those and more!

Active noise cancellation
technology

Noise in the cockpit can add stress to your flight and cause ear discomfort, pain and temporary or even permanent hearing impairment. According to the FAA, a headset with active noise cancellation can help protect your hearing by decreasing the effects of noise exposure. Both the A30 and ProFlight Series 2 aviation headsets feature three modes of active noise cancellation.

Comfort

With all the flight hours you dedicate to getting your license and perfecting your craft, comfort is a top priority. Bose headsets are acclaimed for their comfort and stability with lightweight form factors, comfortable ear cushions and low clamping force.

Form factor

You should choose your form factor (over-ear vs. in-ear) based on your typical flight environment. Over-ear form factors, like the A30, are ideal in almost all flying environments. In-ear form factors, such as the ProFlight Series 2, are engineered for jet aircraft.

Bluetooth® capabilities

Bluetooth® audio allows you to connect wirelessly to mobile devices, audio systems and electronic flight bags. The audio prioritization in Bose headsets enables mixing Bluetooth® audio with intercom audio or muting Bluetooth® for intercom transmissions.

Before purchasing a headset, ensure it’s compatible with your aircraft plug types. The Bose A30 and ProFlight Series 2 headsets are available in the most commonly used plug type – GA/Dual Plug – as well as various others.
